Research Agreement.

Interfaces is a research preview operated by Dafdef, inc., doing business as Interfaces (“Interfaces,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This Research Agreement explains the research information we collect, what we do with it, the risks and possible benefits, and your choices.

This is the one research agreement for the entire Interfaces platform. It applies across Personal, Silent Speech, voice, keyboard handoffs, Mac capture, AI, memory, agents, and the Developer platform where you use those features as an account holder. It is accepted together with the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

1. Participation is required to use the research preview

Using Interfaces means participating in the research preview. You must be at least 18 and agree to this entire Research Agreement before using an account-based Interfaces product. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

There is no separate or optional research-consent state. A feature may collect data only when you invoke it, and you may decide whether to start an additional workflow such as custom-model training. That feature choice controls whether the extra capture happens; it does not make this agreement optional while you continue using Interfaces.

2. The shared experience works without training a custom model

Silent Speech is available through a shared model intended to work out of the box when you position yourself and your camera as instructed. You are not required to provide a guided phrase set, reach a recording target, or train a custom model to access the shared experience.

If you choose Train a custom model, we collect the prompted recordings, labels, timing and quality information, corrections, derived features, evaluations, and model artifacts needed to create, test, operate, and improve that model. The same Research Agreement governs that workflow; no second agreement appears.

3. Information covered by this agreement

Depending on the products and features you invoke, research information may include:

• your messages, prompts, files, images, AI responses, conversation context, preferences, memories, corrections, and agent instructions or actions;
• microphone audio, voice transcripts, language, timing, and quality information;
• front-camera video or frames showing your face and mouth;
• mouth-region crops, motion and timing features, model inputs, decoded text, corrected text, outputs, confidence, and evaluation results;
• synchronized camera video, microphone audio, local transcripts, timing, and capture-quality information from completed Mac dictations;
• prompted recordings, labels, derived features, checkpoints, and personal-model artifacts when you choose custom-model training;
• device, app, build, locale, permission, feature, latency, reliability, and error-category information; and
• agreement version and hash, age confirmation, acceptance, withdrawal, deletion, and access records.

Ordinary keyboard taps and local suggestions remain on device. We do not collect everything you type merely because the Interfaces keyboard is enabled. If you invoke microphone or mouth capture, or explicitly submit text or context to an AI feature, that submitted information is covered by this agreement.

4. What the research does

We use covered information to:

• provide and personalize Interfaces for you;
• transcribe voice and decode speech from mouth movement;
• create, evaluate, operate, debug, and retrain a custom model you request;
• build, train, evaluate, test, compare, and improve current and future speech, interface, agent, and AI models;
• study reliability, usability, positioning, lighting, latency, error patterns, and performance across participants and devices;
• develop memories, agents, multimodal interaction, keyboard handoffs, and other ways of communicating with AI; and
• protect the research preview, enforce access, investigate failures, and prevent abuse.

Personalization and shared research are not separate consent programs. The same covered information may support both your experience and broader Interfaces research, subject to this agreement and the Privacy Policy.

5. Where processing happens

Interfaces uses protected device and cloud processing. Depending on the selected feature and current routing, information may be processed by Google Cloud and Firebase, Apple platform services, and approved AI or speech providers such as Google, OpenAI, Deepgram, and ElevenLabs. Providers process information to operate the selected feature for Interfaces and are subject to contracts, policies, and technical controls appropriate to their role.

Developer API traffic is isolated from Personal account data through internal ownership and credential controls. If you build an integration, this agreement covers your own account participation; it does not give you permission to submit another person’s data. You must provide legally sufficient notices and obtain all required permissions for end-user data.

6. Sensitive and biometric information

Face, mouth, and voice recordings and information derived from them may be considered biometric identifiers or biometric information under some laws. You consent to Interfaces collecting, storing, using, deriving information from, and disclosing those recordings to approved service providers for the purposes above.

Interfaces does not use this information to identify you, recognize you in public, or perform facial recognition. We do not sell, lease, or trade face or voice recordings or information derived from them as data, and we do not license them to data brokers or advertisers. We may charge for products and services that use models developed through the research.

Our public retention and destruction schedule is in the Privacy Policy. We destroy biometric source information when its purpose is satisfied, when you withdraw or request deletion, or no later than three years after your last interaction with Interfaces—whichever occurs first—subject to short recovery windows and records legally required to honor your request.

7. Risks and possible benefits

Risks include privacy loss, unauthorized access, discomfort from camera or microphone use, accidental capture of your surroundings, inaccurate transcripts or AI output, model bias, unwanted memories or actions, and the possibility that a trained model retains statistical influence that cannot later be isolated. Security and minimization measures reduce but cannot eliminate these risks.

You may receive access to experimental interfaces, a personalized experience, or a custom model, but none of these benefits is guaranteed. You are not paid for participation unless Interfaces separately agrees in writing.

Do not use the research preview for emergencies, safety-critical communication, medical decisions, legal instructions, financial transactions, or other situations where an error could cause serious harm.

8. Retention, deletion, and withdrawal

The Privacy Policy contains the company-wide retention schedule and deletion process. You can stop participating and request deletion at any time through available product controls or by emailing privacy@interfaces.inc.

Withdrawal stops new research collection and future use of identifiable source information where technically and legally feasible. It cannot undo aggregate analysis or model training completed before withdrawal, and a model version already trained and released cannot be retroactively untrained. We will exclude deleted or withdrawn source information from future training and keep only the minimal pseudonymous record needed to honor your request and prevent future reuse.

9. Confidentiality and research results

We use safeguards described in the Privacy Policy and limit access to people and providers who need it for their work. We may disclose information when required by law or necessary to protect rights and safety. We may publish, demonstrate, or share aggregate or de-identified research results that do not reasonably identify you.

10. Voluntary feature choices and ending participation

Although this agreement is required to use Interfaces, you control whether to invoke a particular camera, microphone, memory, agent, Mac-capture, or custom-training feature. You can stop using a feature at any time. Device permissions can be changed in operating-system settings, though disabling a required permission means that feature will no longer work.

Ending participation means stopping use of the Interfaces research preview and withdrawing or deleting your account. It does not affect rights or data processing that law permits independently of consent, such as security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, and enforcing agreements.

11. Changes and renewed acceptance

We may update this Research Agreement as the research changes. The Service records the document identifier, version, source revision, cryptographic hash, account, client, locale, and acceptance time. If a material change requires renewed consent, Interfaces will block continued account use until you review and accept the new version.

12. Agreement

By selecting Accept and Continue, you confirm that:

• you are at least 18 years old;
• you have read and accept the Terms of Use;
• you acknowledge the Privacy Policy;
• you have read this Research Agreement and consent to the research collection, use, retention, and service-provider disclosure it describes; and
• you understand that you may withdraw and request deletion, subject to the limits above.
